How to Crack MHT-CET: Complete Strategy & Study Plan
MHT-CET is the gateway to top engineering and pharmacy colleges in Maharashtra. The good news: it rewards speed, accuracy and syllabus discipline more than raw difficulty. With a focused plan and consistent practice, a high percentile is well within reach — for free.
1. Understand the pattern & weightage
MHT-CET is largely based on the Maharashtra State Board syllabus. The single most important thing to remember:
Roughly 80% of questions come from Std XII and about 20% from Std XI. There is no negative marking, so attempt everything.
- PCM group (engineering): Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
- PCB group (pharmacy/allied): Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
- Maths carries 2 marks per question; Physics, Chemistry and Biology carry 1 mark each.
Download the official syllabus from our MHT-CET section and confirm the current-year pattern on the CET Cell portal.
2. A realistic month-by-month plan
Months 1–3: Build the base
Finish Std XII concepts first (they carry the most weight). Read the Balbharati textbook, make one-page formula sheets, and solve chapter-end questions. Revise Std XI topics in parallel on weekends.
Months 4–5: Practice mode
Shift to MCQ practice. Solve our subject-wise MCQ PDFs chapter by chapter. Track accuracy and note weak chapters in a separate list.
Month 6: Full-length tests & revision
Attempt full-length test series under exam-like timing. Review every mistake the same day. Revise only from your formula sheets and error log in the final 2 weeks.
3. Subject-wise smart tips
- Physics: Master formulae and units. Most questions are direct or single-step numericals.
- Chemistry: Inorganic and Physical are the fastest scorers — memorise reactions and practise numericals for speed.
- Mathematics: Since Maths is 2 marks each, prioritise it. Learn shortcuts for calculus, vectors and probability.
- Biology: High-yield and memory-based — NCERT-style diagrams and definitions pay off.
4. The speed & accuracy formula
MHT-CET is a time game. Aim to solve every question in under a minute on average. Do this by:
- Attempting three timed sectional tests a week.
- Skipping and marking long questions, then returning to them.
- Since there’s no negative marking, never leave a blank — make an educated guess.
5. Exam-day checklist
- Carry your hall ticket and valid ID.
- Attempt your strongest subject first to build confidence.
- Keep an eye on the on-screen timer; don’t over-invest in a single question.
Consistency beats intensity. Follow the plan, practise daily with the free MHT-CET material, and you’ll walk into the exam prepared.
