First Year Engineering Question Bank
51 subject-wise question banks for the University of Mumbai and Savitribai Phule Pune University — Semester 1 and Semester 2, every scheme still in use. Built from the topics that keep repeating in past papers, on the current paper pattern. Free to read, no sign-up.
What this question bank actually is
These are not reprinted university papers. Every question here was written by MasterMan around the topics that past papers keep coming back to, kept on the real paper pattern and the real mark distribution for your university and scheme. It is the difference between a photocopy and a practice paper: you get the same shape of exam without us reproducing someone else’s question wording.
The useful part is what sits after each question. The years in brackets are the past sittings in which that topic was asked. A question trailing four years is not a suggestion — it is a topic the examiners have returned to four times, and you should be able to answer it cold. A question with one year behind it is worth knowing but is not where your last evening before the paper should go. That single detail turns a list of questions into a priority order, which is the thing most question banks never give you.
Which scheme is mine?
This is where most First Year students lose time, because both universities are running more than one syllabus at once and the subject names changed between them. Get this right before you open anything.
| University | Scheme | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Mumbai | NEP 2020 | Admitted 2023–24 or later. Subjects read Applied Mathematics / Physics / Chemistry. |
| C-Scheme (Rev-2019) | Admitted before NEP, or clearing a backlog on it. Subjects read Engineering Mathematics / Physics / Chemistry, numbered I and II. | |
| CBCGS / CBSGS | Older batches. Only Environmental Studies is kept here; every other subject is covered by the matching C-Scheme bank. | |
| SPPU | 2024 Pattern | Admitted 2024–25 or later. This is the credit pattern and the default choice. |
| 2019 Pattern | Backlog candidates, and subjects that only existed then, such as Systems in Mechanical Engineering. | |
| 2015 Pattern | Older backlogs: Basic Mechanical, and Basic Civil & Environmental Engineering. |
If a subject exists under more than one scheme, sit the newest one timed and use the older one purely as extra practice on the same topics. The topics barely move between schemes; the mark split does.
The paper pattern each bank follows
Each question bank is built to the pattern of the real paper, so a timed attempt tells you something honest about where you stand:
| University | Time | Marks | Structure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mumbai (MU) | 2 hours | 60 | Q.1 compulsory (20 marks), then any two of Q.2–Q.5 at 20 marks each |
| Pune (SPPU) | 2½ hours | 70 | Q.1 compulsory, then one from each either/or pair through the paper |
Engineering Graphics is the one exception worth flagging. Colleges issue their own instruction sheet and drawing-sheet size, so the Graphics banks state the same question data but ask you to follow your college’s sheet format. Keep your construction lines and dimension the views — those carry marks that students routinely throw away.
How to use it, in the order that works
A question bank read like a textbook is almost useless. Worked like a paper, it is the single highest-return thing you can do in the fortnight before a First Year exam.
- Sit the newest-pattern paper timed, once, before you revise. Full duration, no notes, no phone. It will feel bad. That is the point — you are buying an accurate list of what you do not know, and that list is worth more than a week of comfortable reading.
- Mark it honestly and sort your errors into three buckets: concept gaps, calculation slips, and questions you knew but ran out of time for. These three need completely different fixes, and treating them as one pile is why revision often changes nothing.
- Attack the high-repeat topics first. Go back to the bank and work every question carrying three or more years in brackets. This is where the marks statistically are.
- Then fill the concept gaps from your textbook — not from a summary. First Year theory questions reward the derivation, and derivations do not survive being learned from bullet points.
- Re-attempt the same paper a week later and compare. If the score moved but the same silly errors repeat, your problem is exam technique, not knowledge, and the fix is more timed papers rather than more reading.
- In the last two days, revise only your error list and your formula sheet. Do not start a new subject or a new question bank the night before.
