FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which exam should I take for higher studies after engineering?
Take GATE for M.Tech/MS in India and PSU jobs, GRE for MS abroad, and CAT or GMAT for an MBA. CAT is for Indian B-schools (IIMs); GMAT is accepted globally and by top Indian schools like ISB.
Is GATE only for M.Tech?
No. A good GATE score is used for M.Tech/MS and direct PhD admissions, and is a key eligibility criterion for recruitment in many PSUs such as IOCL, ONGC, BHEL and NTPC.
GRE or GMAT for MBA abroad?
Most global business schools accept both. Choose GMAT if you are certain about management, as it is MBA-focused; choose GRE if you want to keep both MS and MBA options open with one score.
Can I prepare for these while in final year?
Yes. Final-year students can appear for all four. GATE and CAT are once-a-year (plan early); GRE and GMAT can be booked year-round, so you can schedule them around your academics.
